The owners and management at One World are always striving to bring our customers the very best in food and drinks. One way we ensure we are staying current is by attending an annual Trends Tour, hosted by a food distributor. The tour takes us throughout the entire city of Chicago – from high end establishments, to classic dinners, eclectic and funky cafes, and anywhere in between.
Sam Eid has attended for the last 8 years and this past year he really saw some interesting places. We wanted to pass along some of the cool ideas, flavors, methods of preparation, and styles that he saw while on this most recent dining tour. If you are up in Chicago, we encourage you to give these places a try! These are very cool industry leaders that would love to serve you.
The first place was GT Prime, a new 5 star steakhouse in Chicago. This is a new take on the steakhouse. It is upscale with premium meat, but in a shareable plate format. Some highlights were the Kale Caesar salad, and the Mac + Cheese. The Mac + Cheese with meat and broccoli reminded Sam of our Adult Mac n’ Cheese, with the option to mix in vegetables or protein.
El Che Bar is a South American restaurant, with their main cooking method being a wood fired grill. This adds a distinct flavor to their different options and offers a unique taste for guests. The thin cut pork chops are absolutely delicious! We’ve actually been working with our chef on a version of thin cut pork chops for our own menu. While we would have a different flavor, it’s nice to know that we are on track with the trendsetters we admire!
The last visit was to Giant. The ambiance of this establishment reminded Sam so much of One World – the servers were friendly and knowledgeable, and many had tattoos and piercings on display. Sam described the place as comfortable and laid back, but with awesome execution! If you’re interested in their awesome food, you will have to call ahead, as they are booked solid for 2 months in advance!
A few highlights from Giant were the Marinated Zucchini Salad, and the Garlic Buttermilk Potatoes. We are hoping to do some kind of zucchini pasta sometime in the future here at One World, so it was great to see zucchini being highlighted. The buttermilk potatoes were a unique offering and tasted as amazing as they look.
It was very exciting and satisfying to see the energy that is being infused into the hospitality business, and to experience the offerings of other restaurateurs who are as passionate about food as we are . There are so many great chefs and hospitality leaders who are pushing the boundaries to bring their guests amazing experiences – it was a joy and a privilege to experience their dining rooms from a guest’s perspective!
