OUR HISTORY

The Story

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Bob, Sam and George Eid worked in their dad’s neighborhood stores, learning about fresh produce, meats, and old fashioned customer service. The Eid brothers also spent time in the kitchen helping their mother turn simple ingredients into great food. It was there they learned that great food and hospitality is an art that has the power to bring people together.

The combination of the brothers entrepreneurial spirit and raw business experience was the spark for opening a café concept.

In 1993, the Eid boys and their friends opened One World as a one room coffee shop and retail space (One World Coffee and Cargo). It quickly evolved to the One World that you see today – a full service restaurant and bar, built on the foundation of quality, consistency, variety and hospitality. Our guiding principle is that food and hospitality are art forms that can bring people together.

Expansion into Catering

As One World Cafe became more popular, customers began to ask for the fresh cafe food for their homes and offices. This request was fulfilled with the creation of One World Catering in 1998. One World Catering specializes in unique caterings to accommodate a variety of events, with the same quality and fresh ingredients our customers have come to expect in our restaurant.

Expansion into The Packard

The success and growth of the restaurant and catering business allowed One World to expand once again in 2006. Prior to this, we had many requests to cater large events such as weddings and other functions, but did not have the facilities to fulfill these requests. In 2006 One World Catering was asked to take over the former Packard Plaza Banquet facility in downtown Peoria (now simply referred to as “The Packard”). The opportunity to take over The Packard was welcomed and we are now able to provide full service catering and banquet services not only for intimate and mid sized events, but also for larger events and full scale productions. Regardless of the size of your event, one of our coordinators is sure to be able to come up with something that works for you.

New Kitchen and Lounge

In 2007, One World built a new, larger kitchen in the building space next door. This allowed for the creation of the “Green Dragon Lounge”, a full service bar featuring 9 beers on tap, top shelf liquor, and an excellent wine list. Additionally, booth seating was added in the new bar area to accommodate even more of our guests. While our restaurant has grown since our opening, our commitment to best serve our guests has never changed.
